Peer review

All research articles published in The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science undergo thorough peer review. The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science employs very strict rigorous peer-review process to evaluate manuscripts for scientific accuracy, novelty, and importance. Peer review frequently improves research while keeping academicians from seeing overstatements of findings. IJ The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science meticulous editing procedure frequently necessitates lengthy revisions and entails meticulous accuracy checking. Each Original manuscript that is published by The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science is edited by at least two to three independent, expert peer reviewers. The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science has a different peer review process.

Peer review policy

Every manuscript submitted to The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science is evaluated by an editor, who determines if it is appropriate for peer review. The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science has the right to swiftly reject publications without external review that the editors deem to be unsuitable or of insufficient general interest. If manuscript is, consider that situation our Editorial Board will be assigned for overseeing peer review. Submissions felt to be suitable for consideration will be sent for peer review by appropriate independent experts identified by the Handling Editor. Manuscripts judged to be of potential interest to our readership are sent for formal review, typically to two or three reviewers, but sometimes more if special advice is needed (for example on statistics or a particular technique). The editors then select one option from a range of options depending on the reviewer’s recommendations.

Our peer review procedure aims to enhance research papers while preventing academicians from seeing exaggerated findings. Editors, statistical experts, document editors, illustrators, and proof-readers spend hundreds of hours making sure every paper complies with high standards before it is published in The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science.

Peer reviewers

Authors are free to recommend possible reviewers, but the Editor will decide whether or not to take their suggestions into account. Authors should not recommend recent coworkers or colleagues who are employed by the same institution. The peer review process may be hampered if authors exclude too many people. The Editor may decide to invite excluded peer reviewers, so please be aware of that. The article will be rejected for willful falsification of information, such as suggesting reviewers with a bogus name or email address, and may result in further investigation in accordance with our misconduct policy.

Review process flow

After submission, the author typically receives the reviewers' comments in 3 weeks. The FINAL decision (accepted or accepted with minor change, accepted with substantial revision, or rejected) will be sent to the associated author using the reviewers' remarks. Reviewers are questioned about their interest in reviewing the amended text. Regardless of a reviewer's response, the editorial office may ask for a re-review to make sure an objective and comprehensive assessment is made. Reviewers who may have offered an opinion not in accordance with the FINAL decision should not feel that their recommendation was not duly considered, and their service not properly appreciated. Experts often disagree, and it is the job of the editorial team to make a FINAL decision.

In the case of minor modifications, authors are advised to submit the updated paper within 7–15 days of receiving reviewer comments. However, to uphold the goal of this journal's speedy publishing, the amended manuscript submission should not take longer than 8 weeks (unless in cases of major revision requiring additional experiment, analysis, etc.). Authors of the revised article must also submit a completed "review comment form" along with any arguments they may have in opposition to the reviewers' points. During the peer review process, the Editor of the journal will have the exclusive authority to decide whether to accept or reject a submission. The journal is determined to promote integrity in research publication. In case of any suspected misconduct, journal management will reserve the right to re-review any manuscript at any stages before final publication.

Review Appeal

Papers that have been rejected have a formal appeal option available to them. Requests for appeals must be made in writing, not over the phone, and must include the term "appeal" in the subject line. They should be sent to wocsijournal@gmail.com. Authors who are still not pleased may write to the Editorial Office referencing the manuscript reference number. All of these situations involve the possibility that some time may pass before the journal can react, and during this period the manuscript cannot be submitted to another publication venue. Authors must include thorough justifications for their appeals as well as point-by-point responses to the reviewers' and/or Academic Editor's criticisms. Authors should also be aware that priority is given to new submissions to the journal and so the processing of the appeal may well take longer than the processing of the original submission. If an appeal is rejected, further appeals of the decision will not be considered and the paper may not be resubmitted.

Authorship

Authorship provides credit for a researcher’s contributions to a study and carries accountability. The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science definition of authorship is creation depends on that of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. (http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/browse/roles-and-responsibilities/defining-the-role-of-authors-and-contributors.html) and encompasses the following 4 criteria:

  1. Significant contributions to the article's conception and design, or to the data analysis and interpretation, AND
  2. Article drafting or critical revision for key intellectual substance, AND
  3. Final approval of the published version AND
  4. Assumption of responsibility for the article's whole, including the investigation and resolution of any issues relating to the article's veracity or integrity.

To be considered an author, a person must satisfy all of conditions 1, 2, 3, and 4, and each author must be willing to accept responsibility for the item in the public eye.

SAGER GUIDELINES

The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science encourage our authors to follow the ‘Sex and Gender Equity in Research – SAGER – guidelines’ and to include sex and gender considerations where relevant. To avoid conflating the terms sex (a biological characteristic) and gender (a social and cultural construct), authors should use them carefully. What sex(es) the study applies to should be made explicit in the article title and/or abstract. Additionally, authors should explain in the background whether sex and/or gender differences might be anticipated; detail how sex and/or gender were taken into consideration in the study's design; present data that has been broken down by sex and/or gender, when applicable; and analyse the results. If no analysis of gender or sex was done, the explanation should be stated in the Discussion. We suggest that our authors consult the full guidelines  before submission.

Trial registration

Trial registration creates a public record of all clinical trials that researchers are planning and what they intend to do, e.g. which intervention(s) they will be testing, the comparator(s) they will use, and what outcomes they will be measuring. See the WHO Trial Registration Data Set for a list of the minimum amount of data that should be included for a trial to be considered fully registered. A clinical trial is any study which meets the World Health Organisation (WHO) definition: "any research study that prospectively assigns human participants or groups of humans to one or more health-related interventions to evaluate the effects on health outcomes". You can find more information about trial registration and what counts as a “health-related intervention” and a “health outcome” on the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) website.

Before enrolling the first patient in a clinical trial, the trial must be registered with an authorised clinical trial registry. The key registries in the WHO network as well as clinicatrial.gov are among the appropriate registries that are described in detail on the ICMJE website. Any articles that present the findings of that clinical study should include the trial registration number (also known as a clinical trial number) in the abstract.

Registration of systematic reviews

It's also best practice to register a systematic review if you're doing one. The only public register for systematic reviews at the moment is PROSPERO . When writing your manuscript, remember to mention the registration number in your abstract much like with clinical trials. Retrospective registration is not permitted with PROSPERO.

Standard of systematic reviews reporting

The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) checklist is heavily cited in the guidelines. To make sure that the final report

fully covers all the actions and decisions required by the standards in the earlier chapters, and

emphasises informed patient and clinical decision making.

The committee suggests several reporting items in addition to the PRISMA requirements. The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science follow that Standards for Systematic Reviews. Washington, DC: The National Academies Press. https://doi.org/10.17226/13059.

Authorship

The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science follow The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals (ICMJE Recommendations 2018) recommend that authorship be based on the following four criteria:

  • Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
    • Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
    • Final approval of the version to be published; AND
    • Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

In addition to being accountable for the parts of the work he or she has done, an author should be able to identify which co-authors are responsible for specific other parts of the work. In addition, authors should have confidence in the integrity of the contributions of their co-authors.

We include only one corresponding author per article. Any further contribution details (eg, equal contribution) must be included in the contributors or acknowledgement sections at the end of the article.

The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science requires that all those designated as authors should meet all four ICMJE criteria for authorship, and all who meet the four criteria should be identified as authors.  We only accept contributors who are natural people over the age of 18. The purpose of these authorship requirements is to only provide authorship status to individuals who merit it and are capable of accepting responsibility for the work. The criteria are not meant to be used as a way to deny coworkers who otherwise satisfy the authorship criteria the chance to satisfy criteria #2 or #3, excluding them from authorship. As a result, the chance to take part in the manuscript's assessment, drafting, and final approval should be given to everyone who satisfies the first requirement.

CITATION

Research manuscript must cite appropriate and relevant literature in support of the claims made.  Any type of citation manipulation, including excessive self-citation, coordinated efforts by numerous authors to collectively self-cite, needless and pointless citation of works that have already been published in the journal to which the paper has been submitted, and others, is unacceptable.

The manuscript will be rejected if the citations are manipulated, and the authors' institutions may receive a report.  Authors should inform the publication of any attempts by peer reviewers or editors to promote such behaviours.

Authors should consider the following The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science guidelines when preparing their manuscript:

  • Authors' last names and initials.
  • The names of all authors should be given unless there are more than 6, in which case the names of the first 3 authors are used followed by “et al.”
  • Title of article and subtitle
  • Use sentence-style capitalization:  capitalize only
  • The first letter of the first word,
  • Proper names,
  • Names of clinical trials or study groups (eg, Community health worker home visits for adults with uncontrolled asthma: the Home BASE Trial randomized clinical trial), and
  • Abbreviations that are ordinarily capitalized (eg, DNA, EEG, VDRL).
  • Abbreviated name of journal
  • Year (or online publication date [month, day, year] if article is published online first and has yet to appear in a paginated issue or is published in an online-only journal)
  • Volume number Issue number
  • Part or supplement number, when pertinent
  • Page numbers (or e-locator if electronic or pre-published)
  • DOI (Electronic articles only)
  • URL (Electronic articles only; if DOI not present)
  • Accessed date (Electronic articles only; if DOI not present)

Misconduct

The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science takes seriously all allegations of potential misconduct and follow the COPE guidelines outlining how to deal with cases of suspected misconduct. In cases of suspected research or publication misconduct, it may be necessary for the Editor to contact and share manuscripts with third parties, for example, author, institution, and ethics committee. A notice of suspected transgression of ethical standards in the peer review system may be included as part of the author’s and article’s bibliographic record.

Research misconduct

All human and animal research, including the collection of human data and material, must have followed established ethical guidelines. The Editor may reject a manuscript and notify third parties, such as the author, institution, and ethics committee, if there is reason to believe that the research has not been conducted in accordance with applicable ethical guidelines.

Articles may be withdrawn if there is clear evidence of research misconduct involving them that has been published or if their scientific integrity has been seriously compromised.

Therefore, reviewers must adhere to the peer review process' confidentiality and refrain from disclosing information about a submission or its review to anybody besides the journal during or after the peer-review process. Reviewers should first ask the journal for permission before including a co-worker in the review process. The Wocsi Journal of Medical Science will not share manuscripts with third parties outside of OUR Editorial board except in cases of suspected misconduct. The editorial assessment of manuscripts, the evaluation of reviewer reports by Editors, or the confidentiality of the submission and review process will not be impacted by participation in this study. After manuscripts are published, research may be conducted in the past; nevertheless, all manuscript-related information will be kept confidential.

Clinical research guidelines

The medical research transparency and accuracy are vital. The impact, dependability, and usability of study findings are improved. Due to the direct impact, it has on human health, high-quality research is essential. Furthermore, the clinical research guidelines must be completely followed, and researchers, physicians, and public health experts must be convinced that the research has been conducted correctly.
